What is advertising?

Advertising is relevant, effective and creative communication that helps organisations build brands and achieve their goals, e.g. engagement, sales, market share and profit

It uses many media, including web, TV, press, posters, mobile, through the letter box, editorial in magazines, events, retail. Over the years, our industry has been transformed by technology. Over 50% of advertising is now on-line, working with web and mobile, and, increasingly, virtual reality and artificial intelligence.

We work with all sorts of companies and sectors to achieve a wide variety of goals such as, change behaviour for good, entertain, inform and educate.

Why is it valuable?

Advertising is one of the fastest growing sectors of the global economy in which the UK is a world leader. It is a driving force in the UK creative economy, which now accounts for 1 in 11 of all UK jobs and I in 8 of all new jobs.

The industry encourages innovation and creativity and new market entrants.

With the IPA internship programme, we are encouraging more STEM talent to enter the industry
